About the coast
Cyprus does two coastlines at once. The south-east, around Ayia Napa and Protaras, is the shallow, family-friendly half — white sand, clear water, easy access. Drive west towards Paphos and the coast hardens into limestone cliffs, sea caves and rock-cut coves that take a little more effort to reach. Both sides hold their warmth into October, which is why we visit in shoulder season rather than the August crush.
Swimming season effectively runs April to early November. July and August are the busiest and hottest months — air temperatures regularly past 35°C, and the headline beaches in Ayia Napa get crowded by 10am. May, June, September and October are the quieter end of the high season and what we'd recommend if you have the flexibility. The sea sits between 19°C in spring and 27°C in late summer.

Landa Beach
The quiet middle child of Ayia Napa's golden strip. Four hundred metres of fine sand between Nissi and Makronissos, with Nissi's water and none of its speakers.

Cyprus
Loukkos Tou Mandi Beach
A small cliff-jump cove 100 metres from the Ayia Napa harbour, with crystal-clear water and a ladder pier for entry.
